10 things you need to know to prepare for Gurmat Center classes!

2023-2024 school year is right around the corner!
Below are 10 things you need to know before GC classes begin!
1) STARTING DATE & TIME:  Levels 1 - 6, Gatka, and Dastar Tying classes will begin during the week of Monday, September 11, 2023. Kirtan classes will begin during the first week of October. Please refer to the timetable & fees schedule in the Welcome Package or your booking confirmation email to find out what day and time your child(ren) will start their class. Please drop off and pick up your child(ren) on time.

2) SCHOOL SUPPLIES (LEVELS 1 - 6): Please send your child(ren) with a pencil case that has the following items: 3 sharpened pencils, 2 erasers, and 1 pencil sharpener. Gurmat Center will provide a workbook, notebook, or binder. Students will be using this for all of their work so they must bring it with them to every class.
3) HOMEWORK: Students in all levels are assigned homework every week. Please support your child(ren) in completing their homework. Without completing homework, students fall behind in class. This holds back both the class and the individual student. Homework for all classes will be posted weekly at www.gurmatcenter.com under the appropriate class.
4) UNIFORM: All students are required to wear the official school uniform to every class. All students must wear a white Punjabi suit, chola, or kurta pajama (any design/any fabric) and a royal blue head covering (Dastar or rumaal). A chuni alone is not recommended because it is difficult to manage and slips off the head.
5) STUDENT SKILLS PRESENTATIONAll classes will share their learning in Sunday Youth & Family Darbar on a rotational basis. Students will be going on stage alongside their teachers and share what they have been learning in class with the Sangat.
6) TRAFFIC NOTE: We are asking families to always park vehicles in appropriate parking spots when dropping off and picking up children at the Gurdwara. A lot of traffic is caused when vehicles are not parked in parking stalls, resulting in long lines and jams. When dropping off or picking up your child(ren), please walk them to their classes and back to the vehicles so that they are under your supervision at all times.
7) CLASS CANCELLATION:  If classes are going to be cancelled, we always let families know through an email and the website (www.gurmatcenter.com). If there are no updates, classes are in session.

8) REPORTING LATE & ABSENCE: Students must submit the late/absence form available at https://www.gurmatcenter.com/report-absence-late in case of any lates or absences.
9) UPDATES AND UPCOMING EVENTS: All notices/newsletters will be emailed (not distributed to students). Please regularly check your email.

10) TAX RECEIPTS: Your official tax receipt will be emailed to you at the end of December or early January.
