Yesterday sevadars helped helped pack nearly 200 bags of candy for our Shaheedi Smagam happening this week. This Seva has been taking place annually for the past 18 years all thanks to our amazing youth who come out year after year! There are only 6 days left until the Smagam! Sevadars are busy preparing for our annual Shaheedi Smagam! All this candy will be distributed through our “Candy Bag Drive Thru” for children who attend our virtual event taking place next Saturday! Sign up through our website if you would like to attend!

Last week, Gurmat Center staff had midterm planning meetings. Punjabi and Santhia teachers and department heads discussed dates and details to ensure that the upcoming exams run smoothly. Emails will be sent out to all students with more details!

Despite COVID-19, Gurmat Center will once again be remembering the great Shaheeds of the Sikh nation by holding its 18th Annual Shaheedi Smagam.

What is the Shaheedi Smagam?

The Shaheedi Smagam is held to commemorate the 1984 Sikh genocide.

Sangat comes together to learn and remember the injustices that occurred and remember the innocent Sikhs that lost their lives and still have not received justice!

Last week, two of GC's youth leaders were invited to a Global Development Studies class from the University of the Fraser Valley to share the community work that Gurmat Center has been involved in for the past 27 years! Gurmat Center was an example of a non-governmental organization that is supported by Sangat donations while working towards building a brighter future for youth within the local community.

The 18th annual Shaheedi Smagam is around the corner! Although it will look a little different this year, we are looking forward to having Sangat join us on October 31st to remember the Shaheeds of 1984. Stay tuned for more details. On Sunday we welcomed our new group of Seva Club members through an orientation and pizza lunch! We are so excited for these members to learn and grow over the course of the next 2 years. We are thankful to have such a dedicated group of youth willing to contribute their time and energy towards Seva!
